STARKVILLE — Dr. James Byron Speed, 64, died June 13, 2025.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Curtis Chapel Cemetery in Starkville. Lowndes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Speed was born Oct. 12, 1960, in Columbus, to the late James Everette Speed and Lou K. Speed. He was a 1978 graduate of Starkville High School, attended Mississippi State University, was a 1983 graduate of the University of Mississippi Nursing School, a 1990 graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Medicine, and a 1995 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was formerly employed as an interventional radiologist at The Radiology Clinic in Tuscaloosa, with DCH Regional Medical Center, and several other medical centers in the area.

He is survived by his son, James Harrison Speed; and brothers, Carl Everette Speed and Michael Elwood Speed.
