VERNON, Ala. — James Paul Shelnut, 80, died Dec. 27, 2010, at Generations of Vernon. Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Beaverton, Ala. Visitation is two hours prior to the service at the church. Chandler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Shelnut was born July 14, 1930, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late William David and Martha Viola Shelnut. He was employed by NACCO as a factory lineman worker and was a veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Shelnut; five brothers; four sisters; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his sons, David, Daniel, Demus, Tommy Dale and James Paul Shelnut Jr.; daughters, Theresa Taggart and Gail Smith; sisters, Ann Cantrell and Darlene Taylor; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
