SULLIGENT, Ala. – James “Harold” Carter, 84, died May 9, 2026, at his residence. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Otts Funeral Home, with Steven Sanderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilmer Addition of Sulligent City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent is in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Carter was born November 29, 1941, to the late I.V. “Buddy” Carter and Odell Fowler Carter. He attended Detroit and Sulligent Schools and was formally employed at McCoy Manufacturing and Reltoc. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Carter; sons Allen Carter, Terry Carter and Brian Carter; siblings Robert Carter, Betty Goda, Carol Sue Morris and Judy Suggs of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Brandon Carter, Brayden Carter, Ethan Carter, Cruise Carter, Cody Gardner and Nathan Randolph.
