ALABASTER, Ala. — Jack Murphy, 91, died Aug. 27, 2025, at Birmingham VA Medical Center. 

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation followed in the church fellowship hall. Lowndes Funeral Home of Columbus was in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Murphy was born May 26, 1934, in Fernbank, Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Elmer Murphy and Sarah Brewer Murphy. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was formerly employed as owner of Murphy Carpets. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melvalene R. Murphy; son, Gerald Anthony “Tony” Murphy; brothers, Jim Murphy, Elmer “Bo” Murphy and Johnny Murphy; and an infant sister. 

He is survived by his daughters, Sarah “Liz” M. Thompson and Buffy Murphy; sister, Hazel M. Colvin; brothers, Gene Murphy and Phillip Murphy; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers were Joseph Murphy, Kevin Clark, Shawn Win, Barry Winn and Landon Clark.
