Sulligent, Ala. — Herman Hayes, 81, died Oct. 23, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. 

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Otts Funeral hOme. Burial followed at Sulligent Cemetery. Visitation was from 10:30-11 .m. prior to services at the funeral home, Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent was in charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Hayes was born July 14, 1944, in Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Clifton Hayes and Flossie Eldridge Hayes. He was a graduate of Sullignet High school and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was formerly employed as a barber. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tom Hayes, Virgil Hayes, Mac Hayes, Junior Hayes, Hardy Hayes, Sterling Hayes and Lewis Hayes; and sisters, Lois Hayes, Lestie Hayes and Dean McGoo. 

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Hayes; son, Lee Hayes of Huntsville, Alabama; daughters, Kristie Plunkett and Melinda Humbers, both of Sulligent; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers were B.J. Plunkett, Brian Vice, Aleck Plunkett, Dale Hawkins, David Hayes and Tracy Taylor.
