Harvey Caplan

Harvey Caplan, 82, died Feb. 6, 2012, in Jackson. No services will be held. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Caplan was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Ruth Drylinger and Bernard Caplan. His career began as a design engineer and design group manager in the aerospace industry. He later worked for the television broadcast industry at the CBS Laboratories, where he designed the Lunar Orbitor Program, the DRIPS Program, the Linotron System, the Vidifont, and other various engineering broadcast projects. Along with CBS, he also worked for Thomson Broadcast, Ikegami, and Chyron and JA Taylor Broadcast Associates. He further served the television industry as a broker and an independent appraiser for financial institutions, video production companies, television stations, and movie production facilities. He retired as manager from the Pro Shop and Golf Course. He is survived by his wife, Tawanna Tex Caplan of Starkville; daughters, Debra Caplan of Stuart, Fla., Meryl Frappier of Ormand Beach, Fla.; son, Peter Caplan of Stuart, Fla.; sister, Elaine Abowitz of Del Ray, Fla.; one grandchild and great-grandchild Memorials may be made to the MAB Scholarship Program, Mississippi Association of Broadcasters, 855 South Pear Orchard Rd., Suite 403, Ridgeland, MS 39157; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
