Grace Caldwell

Grace Ingram Caldwell, 94, died April 1, 2012, at Trinity Health Care Center in Columbus. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning, April 4, 2012, from 11:00AM – noon at Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service at 12:30 PM at Friendship Cemetery will immediately follow visitation. Dr. Shawn Parker from First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Anne Russell Bradley from First United Methodist, will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Robert S. Caldwell, III, James Sanford Clark, Thomas Douglas Dale, Jr., Andrew Moak Griffin, Marion Clayton Grubbs, William Walker Hilbun, Russell Peter Mathews, and Robert Ivy Tidwell. Mrs. Caldwell was born December 6, 1917, in Pickens, MS, to the late Dr. Charles Herbert and Dora Ashe Henderson Ingram. Mrs. Caldwell moved to Columbus in 1935 to attend Mississippi State College for Women. After graduating, she married Columbus native, Robert S. Caldwell. Prior to the birth of her first child, Mrs. Caldwell taught English at S.D. Lee High School. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, a life member of Columbus Junior Auxiliary, and a member of Columbus Garden Club. She played bridge monthly with the same group of ladies for over 50 years. An avid traveler, Mrs. Caldwell traveled all over the world and visited every continent. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Caldwell was preceded in death by her sisters, Bernice Guion and Euna Caviness; brother, James Lowry Ingram; daughter, Betsy Caldwell Dale; grandson, William David Tidwell; and her husband, Robert S. Caldwell. She is survived by her son, Robert S. Caldwell, Jr. (Toni) of Columbus; daughters, Dorothy Tidwell (Jerry) of Atlanta GA; and Carol Mathews Smith (E.C.) of Tampa, FL; sisters, Laura Vee Crawford (Sterling) of Aberdeen; and Betty Jo Young (Edgar) of Sterlington, LA; nine grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
