SULLIGENT, Ala. — Robert Fred Rushing, 80, died Aug. 9, 2011 at his residence. Services are Friday, Aug. 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Norwood Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, with Bill Duncan and Dale Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilmer Addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery. Visitation is today at 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Rushing was born in Lamar County to the late Walter M. and Sarah Jane Carden Rushing. He was a member of the Union Ridge Freewill Baptist Church and a resident of the Taylor Springs Community. He served in the Marines during the Korean War. He was owner and operator of the Amoco Service Station in Sulligent and retired from the Hyster Plant in 1994. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Dora Hollis Rushing; sister, Gloria Rushing Brown; and brother, Jimmy Lynn Rushing. He is survived by his wife, Grace Myers Rushing of Sulligent; daughters, Teresa Hulsey of Sulligent and Deborah Mason of Cottondale, Ala.; sons, Jeffery Rushing of Crystal River, Fla., Jeremy Rushing and Jamie Rushing, both of Sulligent; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers are Heath Butler, Haig Butler, Gregg Butler, David Dean, Dustin Myers, Myers Dean, David Myers, Robert Myers, WIll Myers, Lee Myers and Kevin Myers.
