CEDAR BLUFF – Evelyn “Mattie” Thompson, 91, died May 10, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, at Calvert Funeral Home, with Andy Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in Cairo Cemetery in Cedar Bluff. Visitation will be two hours prior to service at the funeral home. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thompson was born on October 31, 1934, in Clay County, to the late Claude and Naomi Watkins. She was a 1969 graduate of Mississippi State University and was formally employed as an English teacher in the West Point Consolidated School District. She was a member of Cairo Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thompson; her son, Danny Thompson; and three grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra White of Cedar Bluff; brother, Bryant Watkins of Chickasaw County; sister, Elizabeth Henderson of Mt. Airy, Georgia; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clay White, Matt White, Mark Henderson, Jerry Harkness, Terry Chrismond and Rodney Johnson.
