COLUMBUS — Ethel Blackburn Young Jones, 100, died Nov. 5, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Stephen Chapel M.B. Church, with Joe Lee Peoples officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home. Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jones was born July 24, 1925, in Fayette, Alabama, to the late Aaron and Jalie Bell Howell Blackburn. She attended West Highland High School and was a graduate of Laura’s Cosmetology School. She was self-employed as a beautician and a formal wear shop owner and was a member of Stephen Chapel M.B. Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, George B. Young and Willis Jones; and siblings, Louis Superior Blackburn, Wardell Blackburn, Excel Blackburn, Rafe Blackburn, Mattaw Greene, Frances Driver, Gurtie Mae Blackburn and Nervie Blackburn.
She is survived by her children, George Franklin Young, Fred Young, Lynward Young and Barbrie Ruth Speight; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are George Franklin Young, Lynward Young, Fred Young, Eric Speight, Aaron Young, Christopher Love, Bryce Love and Brennan Austin.
