Edsel Gideon

VERNON, Ala. — Edsel Gideon, 95, died Sept. 13, 2025, at his residence.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Freewill Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Sulligent, Alabama, with Arnold Sheets, Leon Barnes and Jerry Smith officiating. Burial followed at Wofford Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gideon was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Splunge, to the late Woodie Gideon and Lena Falkner Gideon. He attended Splunge schools and Sulligent High School and was formerly employed at Glenn Manufacturing in Vernon, Reltoc Manufacturing in Beaverton, and Vernon Sav Mor. He was a member of the Stateline Harmoneers and Freewill Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Eunice Eads, Ailene Gilbreath, Billie Chism, Annette Taylor and Buddy Gideon.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Barnes Gideon of Vernon; daughters, Diane Wilson of Vernon, Barbara Smith of Dothan, and Tina Quinn of Sulligent; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Tim Wilson, Chris Smith, Landon Quinn, Garrett Sanford, Brady Sanford and Bryant Smith.
