STARKVILLE — Douglas Wayne Houston, 89, died June 8, 2022, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, at Welch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clifton Curtis and Tom Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Houston was born April 30, 1933, in Sylvarena, to the late Ethel Joseph and Gertrude Gardner Houston. He was a graduate of Sylvarena High School and Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was formerly employed as a soil testing leader, soil scientist, cotton specialist and weed specialist with the Extension Service at MSU, as leader of the Extension Agronomy Department, a professor, and with TERRA and BASF. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph H. Houston; and sister, Myrtle A. Bankston.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Pickler Houston; sons, Doug Houston and Russ Houston; daughter, Janet Beall; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
