COLUMBUS — Daton “Rooster” Butler, 77, died June 26, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Providence M.B. Church, with Timothy Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Stallion Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Friday at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Butler was born Sept. 6, 1947, in Columbus, to the late Ceabon Butler and Maethelma Dancy. He was self-employed as a mechanic and formerly employed with Burlington Railroad and was a member of Providence M.B. Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his children, Monica Butler and Freddie Butler; and siblings, Willie C. Butler, Andrew Butler, Hardy Butler and Elsie Butler.
He is survived by his wife, Classie L. Butler of Columbus; children, Marla Butler of Indianapolis, Indiana, Vicky Butler of Columbus, Lakesha Butler of Saltillo, Alina Butler, Rhonda Faye Ancum of McDonough, Georgia, and Jevonka Smith of Columbus; siblings, Johnnie Mae Miller, Daisy M. Harrison, Ermon Butler, Ineze Robinson, Wylie Butler, William E. Butler, Charles Butler and Lorenzo Butler; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
