Cheifous Carlie Aldridge
Date of notice: January 15, 2015
Cheifous Carlie Aldridge, known by most as Carlie or C.C., died peacefully, after a period of declining health, in the Methodist Hospital of his hometown of Olive Branch, Mississippi on January 11th, 2015 at the age of 90. Carlie is survived by his wife Eleanor; sons, Dennis and Keith; sister, Eula; Grandchildren, Colin, Jill, Christopher, Elizabeth and Sydney; Great-Grandchildren, Bethany, Connor, Cohen, Erica, Kenzie, Rowan, Keegan and Lane. Carlie was born on February 20th, 1924 in Carbon Hill, Alabama to Lonnie and Fannie Aldridge. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force, along with his twin brother Arlie, in 1943. After basic training they were shipped overseas to the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theatre of WWII and stationed at Bengal Air Depot in Calcutta, India for 12 months. They volunteered for duty in China and traveled by truck over the Himalayan Mountains by way of the famous “Burma Road” to their new assignment at the Chung-King Air Depot in China where they spent 12 months delivering supplies in support of U.S. and Chinese operations in Western China. After the war, he returned to his home in Caledonia, Mississippi. He then moved to Olive Branch where he met Linelle, the first of his three wives and the mother of his two sons. During this time he started his professional career driving for Armstrong Relocation Service out of Memphis, Tennessee. Carlie was known for his love of driving and during his long and memorable career he moved everything from Richard Nixon’s office to a fully intact airplane. Shortly after Linelle passed away in 1990, he met Chris Green. Their time together was cut short when Chris passed away from cancer in 1996. It was in 1997 when he met Eleanor “Ellie” Snyder. The two bonded over their favorite card game, Rook. Carlie would drive 150 miles one way just to play a game of Rook with his future wife. The two had a long, happy marriage that lasted 17 years. Both were members of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church, and enjoyed themselves playing Rook with their friends and eating at their favorite restaurant Hazel’s almost every day. A funeral is scheduled for 1:00pm on Friday, January 16th, 2015 at Maples Memorial United Methodist Church, Olive Branch, MS. Reverend Adam Gordon, Associate Pastor, will officiate the ceremony. The family will be available to receive guests at the church 1 hour prior to the funeral. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carlie’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Maples Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund at 8745 Goodman Rd., Olive Branch, MS 38654. The family would like to thank the entire medical staff at Methodist Hospital and Olive Grove Terrace for their outstanding care and support.
