Calvin C. Phillips Sr., 83, died May 20, 2009, at Oktibbeha County Hospital-Starkville. Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at West Lowndes High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Lee Andrew Petty officiating. Burial will follow at Wicks Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation is today from 3-8 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mr. Phillips was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Lowndes County to the late John and Elzenia Wicks Phillips. He was retired from working for Lowndes County Road Maintenance Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pressie Phillips; and 10 siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Della D. Phillips of Columbus and Juanita Phillips of Jackson; sons, Robert Lee, T.C. and Herman Phillips, all of Columbus, Alonzo and Adolph Phillips, both of Crawford, and Calvin Phillips Jr. of Brandon; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Billy Phillips, John Harris, Ben Deloach, Samson Edmond, John Bankhead and Ed Hines.
