STARKVILLE — Billy McGovern Stacy, 83, died Sept. 10, 2019, at his residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grant Arinder, Bill Duncan and Bob Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Garden Park. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the church. Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Stacy was a 1955 graduate of Winona High School and attended Mississippi State University. He was drafted into the National Football League with the Chicago Cardinals, now the Arizona Cardinals. He served as a field representative for former 2nd District U.S. Rep. David Bowen, as director of planning and development in Mississippi’s Northern District, as executive director of the Mississippi Sheriffs’ Boys and Girls Ranch, and as mayor of Starkville. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents, J.L. “Pete” and Francis Whitehead and McGovern Stacy and Dora Stanley; and brothers, Benny Stacy and Bobby Stacy. He is survived by his wife, Pat Fitzgerald Stacy of Starkville; children, Stephanie Tomlinson of Starkville, Steve Stacy of Louisville and Shelly Stacy Moore of Elmore, Alabama; siblings, Rose Rill, Ann Roach, Jackie Stanley Baldwin, Joe Stacy and James Stacy; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jake Tomlinson, Philip Moore, Matthew Moore, Stephen Moore, Baron Jones and John Going. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or Food Closet, 405 N.
