John Billie Harris, age 66, was called home by his Lord and Savior Friday, February 1, 2013. Services were held Monday, February 4, 2013, at 11:00 AM at New Covenant Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Whaley and Rev. Ed Nix officiating. Burial with U.S. Army Honors followed at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held at Memorial Funeral Home Sunday, February 3, 2013. Mr. Harris was born on Thursday, November 28, 1946, in Millport, AL to the late Lavert and Annie Kate Sudduth Harris. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 69, a member of the VFW Post 4272 and the Steens Civic Center. He retired as owner and operator of Harris Trucking after 46 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Harris. Survivors include his wife, Betty A. Harris, Steens, MS; daughters, Brandy Murphy, Columbus, MS and Michelle Glidewell (Steve), Corinth, MS; son, Bill Harris, Jr., Birmingham, AL; step-Son, Michael Reynolds (Renee’), of Steens, MS; sisters, Alene Keaton, Columbus, MS and Jackie Harris Wolf, Columbus, MS; brothers, Lamar Harris (Debbie), Columbus, MS and Jimmy Dale Harris, Columbus, MS; four grandchildren, Lane Euer, Brody Murphy, Josh Reynolds (Haley) and Dakota Conner (Chase); brother and sister-in law, John and Geraline Holliman; sister-in-law, Donna Allbritton; and mother-in-law, Margreet Allbritton. The pallbearers were Charlie Johnson, Lee Gallop, Carl Stewart, Virgil Kimbrell, Lucas Harris, Josh Keaton, Justin Harris, and Buddy Thrasher. The honorary pallbearers were Grady Jaynes, Herman Hughes, Jim Richardson, members of the American Legion Post 69, members of the VFW Post 4272, and Deacons of New Covenant Baptist Church.
