Betsy Poag Jones

Betsy Poag Jones, 71, of Starkville, MS, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, April 5, 2026, The funeral service will be held at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, on April 8, 2026. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 to 2:00 pm with the funeral immediately following at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Memorial Garden Park.
Betsy was born and raised in Macon, MS. Her parents were Harry Edgar and Audrey Harmon Poag. She was a graduate of Central Academy in Macon, and she graduated from MSU, Magna Cum Laude, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Betsy worked many years at NBC Bank of Mississippi and eventually retired as Business Manager in the ITS Department at Mississippi State University.
Betsy was a member of First Baptist Church in Starkville. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Judy Poag Brown and Aliene Poag and two brothers, William H. Poag and Harry E. Poag, Jr.
Betsy is lovingly remembered by her husband of 35 years, Larry W. (Bucky) Jones; her sister, Ellen Shaw (Odie) of Sturgis; two brothers, Dean Poag (Sandy) of Hanceville, AL and Steven Poag (Connie) of Rock Hill, SC, numerous nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.
Betsy was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Her unconditional love for her family knew no bounds. There were no limits to what she would do for those she held dearly. Betsy was also a devoted mother to her beloved Dachshunds, who brought her immense joy every day.
Though Betsy will be deeply missed here on earth, her family finds comfort in the promise of eternal life, rejoicing in knowing she met Jesus Christ face to face on Easter morning and is now in His arms forever.

Betsy’s legacy of faith, love, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
