COLUMBUS – Bertha Colvin Heard, 70, died May 2, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Northside M.B. Church, with Terrance Windham officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. 

Mrs. Heard was born January 4, 1956, in Columbus, to the late Folyd Colvin and Emma Lash Colvin. She was formally employed with Microtek Medical, Johnston Tombigbee Furniture Company, as a counselor at Columbus Air Force Base Youth Center, as a teacher’s aid, and as stock crew assistant manager at Winn-Dixie. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nicole Yvette Colvin; and siblings, Samuel Conner, Walter Harris, Lavern Colvin, Billy Colvin, Tina Colvin and Floyd Colvin. 

She is survived by her husband, Willie C. Heard; daughter, Garnesha Colvin Martin; siblings, Arthur Conner, Bobby Colvin, Ronnie Colvin, Tony Colvin, Alvin Colvin and Joyce Hairston; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Alvin Colvin, Charles Colvin, Maco Colvin, B.J. Colvin, Ronnie Colvin and Sellus Colvin.
