STARKVILLE — Alfred James Barber, 69, died March 23, 2026, at Crystal Rehabilitation Center in Greenwood.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, at New Prairie Grove M.B. Church, with the Rev. Sam Boner officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation is from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday at Hairston and Hairston Funeral Homes. Hairston and Hairston Funeral Homes of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Barber was born May 28,1 956, in Jackson, to the late Gladys Robinson-Barber and Albert Barber. He attended Byron High School and was formerly employed as a forklift driver with Tyson Foods in Carthage and with Hewlett Wood Products. He was a member of Springhill M.B. Church and New Prairie Grove M.B. Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Bonnie, Maxine and Caroline.
He is survived by his wife, Glynnis Pope-Barber; children, Charlesia and Jalesia Barber; siblings, Jean Barber, Albert Barber and Terry Barber, all of Jackson, and Latoria Barber of Houston, Texas; and one grandchild.
