COLUMBUS — Alex Shields, 78, died June 2, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Running Water Baptist Church in Shuqualak, with Johnny Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Slaughter Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home. Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Macon is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shields was born Jan. 22, 1948, to the late Earnest Shields and Beatrice “Lady B” Conner. He was formerly employed with Shuqualak Lumber Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Earnest Shields Jr., Cedrice Conner, Henry Shields and Pearlie Mae Scott; and one grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Shields; children; Bernard Shields, Kathy Buckhalter, Keysha Shields, Nutuanda Boykin and Khimmy Yates; siblings, Gloria Jean Shields, Linda Mitchell, Juanita Nash, Constance Howard, Darlene Stone, Antonia Shields, Vanessa Jones, Eva Brewster, Eliza Henderson, Richard Shields, Dale Shields, Author Shields and Sinatra Stokes; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
