A Columbus woman woke up Tuesday morning to find a man rummaging through her kitchen. The suspect is now behind bars.
Trevor Dodd, 33, is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch his office received a call around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday reporting the break in. Dodd had kicked in the door to the woman’s home before entering.
The victim woke up when she heard the man talking to himself. She asked who he was and why he was in her house, and he told her his first name before leaving.
Hawkins said there was no evidence Dodd was armed, and the victim was not hurt.
After calling law enforcement, the victim noticed items missing from her home. Deputies found the items – a bottle of vodka, a vape pen and one ounce of THC-A, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid – when they arrested Dodd down the road from the home.
Hawkins said Dodd’s motive for breaking into the home is unknown.
Dodd is currently being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting bond.
