CLAY COUNTY – A West Point man is out on bond after allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a woman he was in a relationship with earlier this week.
James Spratt, 37, is charged with domestic violence-aggravated assault, kidnapping and sexual battery, according to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Sheriff Eddie Scott said deputies responded to a 911 call made early Tuesday morning from a woman claiming she was involved in a domestic altercation.
Spratt, who was in a relationship with the victim, was arrested at the scene, Scott said.
“We responded and got the information,” he said. “It’s one of those deals where you can drive up and look and see, there’s no doubt what has happened.”
Details on the incident remain scarce as the victim is treated for her injuries, though Scott said the charges align with her initial statements to investigators.
“He kept her against her will for a couple of days, but we don’t have all of the particular information just yet until we finish talking with her and getting detailed statements from her,” he said.
Spratt was held at Clay County Detention Center until he was released Wednesday afternoon on a $60,000 bond.
“I’m going to try to push and get his case to the grand jury just as quick as I can,” Scott said.
