October unemployment rates throughout the Golden Triangle 0.1% and 0.5% from September.
Clay and Noxubee County saw the largest improvement, both falling 0.5% to 2.8% and 4.1%, respectively. Lowndes County fell 0.3% from September, (3.2%), and Oktibbeha County saw the smallest improvement, going from 3% to 2.9%, according to data released by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
Year over year, Noxubee County saw the largest improvement, falling 1.7% from October 2022 (5.8%). Clay County fell 1.1% from the same time last year, while Lowndes and Oktibbeha fell 0.8% and 0.5%, respectively, both now sitting at 2.9%.
On the state and national level, Mississippi fell to 2.8%, a 0.3% improvement from August, while the nation remained at 3.6%. The state rate also fell 0.7% from October 2022 (3.5%), while the nation rose 0.2% from 3.4% at the same time last year.
The number of unemployed people in Lowndes and Oktibbeha County fell to 700 and 650, respectively. Clay and Noxubee County fell to 260 and 130 people.
There are currently 1,740 people unemployed throughout the Golden Triangle, down 480 people from October 2022.
There are 34,000 people unemployed throughout the state, down 9,500 people from last year. Across the nation, there are 6,049,00 unemployed, compared to 5,609,000 in October 2022.
