OKTIBBEHA COUNTY – Sheriff’s deputies are still seeking a trustee who walked out of the county jail at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday.
William Strohm, 47, of Memphis, Tennessee, was serving on the kitchen crew, according to a sheriff’s office Facebook post. He was last seen running north on Jackson Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
The post said deputies and Starkville police officers are actively searching the area on foot and with the assistance of drones.
Capt. Brett Watson told The Dispatch Strohm was halfway through serving a year sentence for having his probation revoked on a 2001 burglary conviction.
Strohm is about 5-10 and weighs 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing light-colored pants, possibly khaki, a white T-shirt and a dark coat with orange interior. The jail released a photo of Strohm just prior to his escape.
Anyone who knows Strohm’s whereabouts is asked to call 911, the sheriff’s office at (662) 323-2421 or Starkville police at (662) 323-4131.
Watson said there’s “a good chance” Strohm remains in the area. Anyone who sees him should contact authorities immediately.
“Use caution,” he said. “Do not approach.”
