A second man has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with a Sunday evening shooting that sent three people to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
The Columbus Police Department arrested Aaron Brooks, 22, of Columbus on Thursday. Brooks is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, the same charges filed against Braylin Edinburgh, 21, of Columbus. Edinburgh turned himself in to police on Tuesday.
A third person, Jasmine Spires, 21, of Columbus, was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of accessory after the fact in
connection to the shooting.
The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. Sunday in a car wash parking lot on the 700 block of Alabama Street in east Columbus. Police were notified of the incident when Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle reported three people had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. One victim was treated and released. Two others remained in the hospital for
what Shelton described as non-lethal injuries.
Initially police believed the victims were shot by a single suspect, Edinburgh. As the investigation continued, evidence surfaced identifying Brooks as a shooting suspect as well.
“As we continued the investigation, getting statements and getting access to some video that helped the investigation, we developed information that led to (Brooks),” CPD Chief Fred Shelton said.
Edinburgh, who was out on probation at the time of Sunday’s incident, is being held without bond at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
As of this morning, Brooks is being held on a $300,000 bond and Spires is being held on a $25,000 bond.
In a separate incident, Shelton said investigation continues in a Tuesday evening shooting incident that resulted in the injury of a tow truck driver as he was attempting to repossess an automobile at a Southside residence.
