A Sturgis man was arrested Monday night after a drive-by shooting at the Regal Inn.
At approximately 7 p.m. Monday, Starkville police responded to a call of shots fired at the two-story motel on Highway 182, just west of Old West Point Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered one shot had been fired through a window of one of the rooms.
Four adults and one child were in the room, but no one was injured, Starkville Police Department Sgt. Chadd Garnett said. The incident stemmed from an ongoing domestic situation, though no additional details were available.
The suspect, 21-year-old Lavontraon James Smith, of Sturgis, was arrested a short time later.
“Within an hour, patrol officers located him,” Garnett said.
Smith was charged with drive-by shooting and his bond was set Tuesday at $10,000. He was still in Clay County Jail as of Wednesday.
Anyone with information on the case can contact the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131, or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151. Tips to Crime Stoppers which lead to an arrest can result in a $1,000 reward. Callers can remain anonymous.
