Officers with the Columbus Police Department have arrested a suspect in an Oct. 20 shooting.
Christopher Rice, 26, of 804 20th St. North, is charged with aggravated assault in relation to a shooting near Seventh Avenue North and Waterworks Road that sent one man to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Authorities did not release updates on the victim’s condition, other than to confirm he is still alive.
Rice was arrested Tuesday at a residence on Sand Road, according to a CPD press release. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force assisted in the investigation to arrest Rice.
Police responded to the scene at about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20 but did not arrest anyone that night. Tupelo-based WTVA reported Rice and another suspect were in custody, but Police Chief Oscar Lewis would not confirm the information and said the news station did not receive it through official CPD channels.
Lewis told The Dispatch on Thursday officers were not seeking a second suspect.
Municipal Court Judge Gary Goodwin set Rice’s bond at $500,000. Rice is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
