Lowndes County Volunteer Fire Department is investigating a fire that destroyed a home in East Lowndes County on Sunday afternoon.
Lowndes County Fire Services Coordinator Neil Austin said volunteers from the District 3 fire station reported to a call at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday, arriving to find the single-family home, located at 688 Ward Road, fully involved.
“Fortunately, no one was at the residence at the time,” Austin said. “We were able to rescue a dog from the residence.”
Austin said the homeowner, who had been at work at the time of the fire, arrived at the scene after firefighters had arrived. Austin said it took about two hours to extinguish the fire. The home was a total loss.
The cause of the fire is unknown pending the investigation.
