A lawsuit filed against the City of Columbus by a former police officer claiming racial discrimination has been settled.
The suit, brought by former Columbus Police Department officer Greg Harstad, was settled last week, according to court documents.
Harstad filed the suit against the city in 2013 after he was looked over for the chief of police position. In his suit, Harstad, a retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. who had served with the CPD for two years prior to the suit, claimed he was denied the position because he was white. The applicant who was chosen for the position, now former chief of police Selvain McQueen, is black.
The suit was settled on Oct. 27.
The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. City attorney Jeff Turnage declined to comment.
