A woman fought off a would-be purse snatcher Friday in the AT&T parking lot on Highway 12.
The Starkville Police Department responded to a report of an accident in the parking lot of AT&T at 824 Highway 12 W. Friday at about 1 p.m. Upon arrival, officers noticed a woman involved in the accident was visibly shaken and, after further questioning, determined a man had tried to snatch her purse just prior to the accident.
According to police, the woman was in one of the businesses in the Starkville Crossing Shopping Center when a man asked her for money. A short time later, the woman was walking to her car when the same man approached her and forcefully attempted to take her purse.
The woman, whom police are not identifying, fought off the suspect and quickly entered her car. While attempting to leave the area, the victim backed into an unoccupied parked car, according to police.
The suspect had fled on food, but was apprehended nearby by Starkville patrol officers. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Police charged Tradennis Terrell Neal, 21, of 305 Everglade Ave., Apt. 3B, with robbery. He was transported to Clay County Jail, where he is being held on a $15,000 bond.
The incident remains under investigation.
