The Starkville Police Department Tuesday released surveillance camera images of two men suspected of robbing a convenience store this weekend on Russell Street.
The images show two men entering Down The Hatch at the corner of Russell Street and Gillespie Street shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday. One man then reaches over the counter and takes an undisclosed amount of cash. The duo then leaves the store and flees on foot.
A store clerk had been standing outside the building when the suspects approached from the south end of the building. The clerk suspected the men were there to rob the store because one covered his face with a backpack and the other covered his face with a garbage bag, so the clerk ran across the street and called 911, according to Starkville police.
The men then entered the store, took the cash and fled.
One of the suspects is black and was wearing a dark plaid shirt, dark jeans and white shoes. The other suspect also is black and was wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, tight jeans and dark shoes.
Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call Starkville Police Department Detective Chadd Garnett at 662-323-4131 ext. 136 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
