A stolen vehicle led Columbus police on a chase Saturday that crossed county lines, ending in an arrest in Amory.
Chadquavin Rice Jr., 25, of Starkville, was charged with grand larceny and commercial burglary.
Rice allegedly stole the car Friday night from Barnes Crossing Auto Sales on Highway 12, according to a Saturday press release from Starkville Police Department.
Police received a call that a city resident had noticed the stolen car at around 11 a.m. at the Marathon gas station on Highway 45 in Columbus, Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Bryan Moore told The Dispatch.
Officers attempted to make contact, and Rice fled the scene in the vehicle with officers and Mississippi Highway Patrol in pursuit, Moore said.
The chase ended at the Walmart in Amory, where police arrested Rice. Nobody was injured.
Though the chase began in Columbus, Moore said CPD would not be filing charges against Rice for eluding police, since he was not in the city long and SPD had already filed charges for the vehicle theft.
Rice was taken to Oktibbeha County Jail. His bond was set at $50,000.
