WEST POINT — A special election is set for June 27 for the city’s Ward 5 selectman vacancy.
The winner will fill the unexpired term of Jasper “Peicy” Pittman, who passed away May 6.
Mayor Rod Bobo said the city is finalizing the resolution calling for the nonpartisan election. Qualifying is open at the city clerk’s office, and the deadline to qualify will be June 7, he said.
Candidates must live in Ward 5.
Pittman was first elected to serve on the board in a 2008 special election. He was reelected in 2009, serving in the seat until he lost it in 2013.
He was elected a third time in 2017 and retained the seat in 2021.
