A male victim is in stable condition in Jackson and two Alabama men are in custody in Oktibbeha County Jail after a weekend shooting.
Deputies responded to the Starkville Raceway, located off Old West Point Road, at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday after numerous gunshots were fired.
One victim, who deputies did not identify, was shot multiple times and later transported to University Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies received suspect and vehicle descriptions from witnesses. The crowd at the track Saturday was estimated at 100-200 people, said Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brett Watson.
Investigators are unsure of how many shots were fired. A motive is not yet established, Watson said, as deputies still need to question the victim.
Brooksville police officers and Miss. Highway Patrol troopers stopped a vehicle matching those descriptions in Noxubee County and arrested Deanthony Terrell Sanders and Lyzell Tywan McCaa. Both men are 21 and from Aliceville, Alabama. Last known addresses were not immediately available for both suspects.
Sanders was charged with one count of aggravated assault, while McCaa was charged with accessory after the fact of aggravated assault.
Both men were transported back to Oktibbeha County and face arraignment.
