A Columbus man was arrested Wednesday after a miles-long car chase through town, during which he fired shots at a female victim who had a 6-week-old infant in her vehicle.
Terence Lee Barrow, 39, is charged with aggravated assault with the intent to produce death.
According to a Columbus Police Department press release, the incident began around 8:30 a.m. in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, where Barrow, driving a 2012 Kia Optima, allegedly began chasing the victim. The chase moved to Military Road near Lowe’s Home Improvement, and from there to Highway 82.
The victim, who was talking to 911 operators, drove into the Kroger parking lot off at 1829 Hwy. 45 N. Columbus Police Department officers pulled Barrow over and took him into custody at Miller’s OK Tire, 1601 Hwy. 45 N.
The tire store is about two-tenths of a mile south of Kroger on Highway 45.
No one was injured.
A weapon was recovered, according to the press release. CPD is not releasing a motive but does not believe the incident was random.
Barrow is in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Bond has not yet been set.
CPD asks anyone with information on this case to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151 or use the P3 Tips smartphone app. Tips are anonymous, and there is a cash reward if they result in an arrest.
