The Columbus Police Department is seeking help from the public to identify a man who stole a purse from an 88-year-old woman Saturday morning in East Columbus.
The woman was shopping inside the Food Giant Supermarket located in the Gateway Shopping Center on Alabama Street when her purse was stolen, according to a press release from the police department.
“She had her purse in the shopping cart, and this man came up, grabbed it and ran away,” CPD Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said. “No one was hurt, and we found the empty purse nearby.”
Daughtry is asking the public to help identify the man in the photo.
“Somebody knows who this is, and I am asking for anonymous help to identify him,” he said. “We are checking cameras of businesses in the area, but this is a good still shot we have of him, and someone knows him.”
Anyone with information regarding the identity of the man in the photo is asked to contact Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 662-328-6788 or call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151. Tips can also be submitted through the P3 Tips app.
“Help us make this arrest,” Daughtry said.
