Columbus voters during the next few weeks will have multiple chances to hear from candidates seeking Columbus government positions.
A debate and two public forums are scheduled during the next two weeks in an attempt to “educate the citizens about the qualifications of each candidate seeking office,” according to Cindy Lawrence, president of the Columbus-Lowndes County League of Voters.
The League of Voters will hold the first forum Monday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Columbus Municipal Complex. It will be followed April 23 by a debate sponsored by the Columbus-Lowndes Political Action Committee at 6 p.m. at the Columbus Municipal Complex.
The final public forum before the May 5 primary election will take place Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at the Columbus Municipal Complex. The April 30 forum will be sponsored by the Lowndes County branch of the NAACP.
If a primary runoff election is necessary, it will be held May 19.
The general election is June 2; those elected will be sworn into office July 6 and will serve until 2013.
