The second suspect in the burglary caught on video turned himself in Tuesday night, police said.
Columbus police officer Terrie Songer said Tavarous Mason, 28, of 416 John Colbert Road in Macon, turned himself in to Noxubee County authorities.
Columbus police arrested Corey Smart, 24, of 1839 Plum Grove Road in Columbus, Tuesday morning in connection with a home burglary at 706 Eighth St. S. on Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Day. The burglary was caught on surveillance video, and police were able to identify the two men.
The video shows two males, one with a handgun, repeatedly entering and leaving a bedroom while going through clothes and other belongings.
Police said a Crime Stoppers tip came in about Smart’s whereabouts and he was taken into custody by Macon police at the home of a relative or friend. Columbus police then charged him with the burglary. Police are looking into whether Smart is connected to other crimes.
Mason’s bond is set at $25,000 and Smart’s bond is set at $15,000, police said, and the court date for both men is Jan. 19.
