Shoppers in downtown Columbus have an opportunity to win one of two grand prizes totaling $1,000 in gift certificates, said Main Street Columbus Executive Director Barbara Bigelow. It starts with picking up a “Passport to Whoville” at any of 16 participating downtown businesses.
The passport project was originally to be part of a Dec. 4 “Grinch Fest in Whoville” event. The fest, however, was canceled due to rising COVID-19 concerns for community health.
“We were so excited about the ‘Passport to Whoville’ opportunity, and the passports were already printed, so we decided the Grinch was not going to steal this chance for two lucky winners,” Bigelow said.
To be eligible for the grand prize drawings, participants must get their passport stamped by at least seven participating merchants and turn it in at any of the 16 businesses no later than Saturday, Dec. 19. Winners will be announced Sunday, Dec. 20. Gift certificates are provided by Main Street Columbus.
Bigelow reminded anyone shopping downtown and getting passports stamped on Saturday to stop by “Whoville,” the former Fashion Barn at the corner of Main and Fifth Street South.
“Volunteers have transformed the location into a ‘Whoville’ wonderland, a great place to take photos,” Bigelow said. “Please wear your mask and social distance, and be sure to pick up some Grinch dust to sprinkle in your yard to let the Grinch know you are keeping Christmas in the air. “Whoville” will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Passports are available at A Southern Gathering, Impressions by Susan, Blades, Justin’s Watch Repair, Cafe on Main, Main Street Art Downunder. Coffeehouse on 5th, Mira Mira, Columbus Arts Council, Munson and Brothers, Faithfabulous Boutique, Park Place Boutique and Salon, Friendly City Books, The Commercial Dispatch, Hollyhocks Gift Shop and The Pop-Up Shop.
