One was injured after a shooting on Northside Tuesday afternoon, according to the Columbus Police Department.
About 3 p.m. officers responded to the area of 7th Avenue North and Moss Street after an undercover officer saw suspects in two cars shooting at each other, CPD Public Information Officer Johannah Owusu said. The shooting started in the area of 23rd Street North between Third and Fourth Avenues and ended at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Moss.
One of the cars crashed into a ditch, Owusu said. One person was wounded and taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle for treatment, and two people were detained and questioned.
No arrests were made, Owusu said.
The undercover officer, who did not work with CPD, scuffled briefly with one of the people on scene after trying to restrain them, Owusu said. Nobody was hurt.
Police ask anyone with any information to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151, or leave a tip through the P3 Tips app. All tips remain anonymous and those given to Crime Stoppers could be eligible for a cash reward.
In a second incident earlier that same day, a citizen reported shots fired at about 12:30 p.m. at 11th Avenue South between Eighth and Ninth Streets. The caller gave a description of the shooters and the vehicle that one of them was driving, according to Owusu.
Officers were able to locate the suspects soon after arriving on scene, Owusu said. During the course of the investigation, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents who were assisting CPD smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a nearby residence.
They got a search warrant and recovered two AR pistols, one AR magazine, one 9mm handgun and one 9mm magazine and a felony amount of marijuana.
A juvenile was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, Owusu said.
Two men were also charged with misdemeanor discharging a firearm in the city limits, Owusu said.
