A Columbus man is in custody after allegedly shooting someone Monday during a reported disturbance.
Jerome Marquez Abrams, 34, is charged with one count of aggravated assault, according to city Public Information Officer Joe Dillon.
Columbus police responded at about 9:30 p.m. to a reported shooting at the 700 block of 17th Street North, Dillon said.
A group was hanging out in the area when a disturbance developed among its members. Abrams allegedly opened fire, striking a 37-year-old male in the upper shoulder, Dillon said. The victim was airlifted to an out-of-the-area hospital for treatment, Dillon said. It is unclear if the victim was the intended target of the shooting.
Abrams was still in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center at press time.
A booking photo was not available by press time due to a technical problem at the jail.
