A Columbus man has been arrested following a shooting at the Townsend Community Center Sunday night.
The Columbus Police Department arrested Devin Thompson, 25, of 3116 Sierra Court, at 11:28 p.m., according to Interim Police Chief Fred Shelton. Shelton said Thompson will be charged with at least one count of aggravated assault when he goes before a judge today.
CPD officers responded to a shots fired call about 6:50 p.m. Sunday. The person who reported the incident told authorities there were gun shots and two men shooting at each other outside the building, according to Shelton.
One person involved in the shooting was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, treated and released. Shelton did not release the victim’s name.
Police are searching for a second suspect.
Two shots were fired into the Townsend Community Center building, Shelton said.
Three vehicles were also damaged in the shooting.
Mississippi University for Women’s campus was locked down for several hours because of its proximity to the community center, Shelton said.
