September unemployment rates throughout the Golden Triangle improved by between 0.7% and 1.7% from August.
Oktibbeha and Noxubee County saw the largest drop, falling 1% and 1.7%, respectively. Lowndes County fell 0.9% from August, (4.1%), and Clay County saw the smallest improvement, going from 4% to 3.3%, according to data released by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
Year over year, Noxubee County showed the most improvement, falling to 4.6%, a 1.8% drop from September 2022. Clay County fell 0.9% from 2022 (4.2%), while Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties both fell 0.8%, currently sitting at 3.2% and 3%, respectively.
On the state and national level, Mississippi fell 0.7% from August and the nation fell 0.3%, both sitting at 3.1% and 3.6%, respectively. The state rate also fell 0.7% from 3.8% in September 2022, while the nation rose 0.3% from 3.3% by this time last year.
The number of people unemployed in Lowndes and Oktibbeha County fell to 790 and 670, respectively. Clay and Noxubee County fell to 300 and 150 people.
There are currently 1,910 people unemployed throughout the Golden Triangle, down 530 people from September 2022 (2,440).
There are currently 38,000 people unemployed throughout the state, down 23.05% from September 2022. Across the nation, there are 6,049,000 unemployed, compared to 5,460,000 in 2022.
