November unemployment rates fell by 0.2% in Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties, while Noxubee rose by 0.3% and Clay County saw no change from October.
Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties both improved to 2.7% from 2.9% in October. Clay County remained at 2.8%, and Noxubee County’s jobless rate rose to 4.3% from the previous month, showing a 0.3% jump.
Year over year, the four-county area fell 0.8% to 1% in unemployment from November 2022.
Lowndes County showed the most improvement, falling 1% from 3.7% in November 2022. Noxubee fell 0.9% from 5.2%, and Oktibbeha and Clay counties both fell 0.8% from 3.5% and 3.6%, respectively.
On the state and national level, Mississippi fell to 2.6%, marking a 0.2% improvement, and the nation fell to 3.5%, marking a 0.1% uptick. The state rate also fell 0.9% from November 2022, (3.5%), while the nation’s rate rose 0.1% from 3.4% by the same time last year.
The number of unemployed people in Lowndes and Oktibbeha County fell to 670 and 590, respectively, while the unemployed in Noxubee County rose to 140 people. Clay County saw no change from October, sitting at 260 people.
There are currently 1,660 people unemployed throughout the Golden Triangle, down 520 people from November 2022.
There are 31,700 people unemployed throughout the state, down 11,800 people from last year. Across the nation, there are 5,827,000 unemployed, compared to 5,523,000 in November 2022.
