CLAY COUNTY – The Office of the Attorney General found no criminal conduct on the side of a Clay County sheriff’s deputy involved in an April 2024 shooting.
The shooting happened April 26, 2024, after a driver failed to pull over as Deputy Bradley Scott attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver led the deputy on a brief vehicle pursuit that ended on Landfield Road in West Point before fleeing on foot.
A press release from Mississippi Department of Public Safety said the driver displayed a firearm toward the deputy. The deputy discharged his weapon, wounding the suspect. The driver was taken to a hospital while the deputy did not sustain serious injuries.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation investigated the shooting, and after reviewing the bureau’s findings, the Attorney General’s Office said Thursday the use of force was justified.
