A New Hope man was arrested last week for allegedly carrying a weapon on school property.
Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Williams, 30, about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Capt. Ryan Rickert with LCSO said Williams was walking from New Hope Middle School toward New Hope Elementary School at the time of his arrest.
Deputies searched Williams and found a firearm, according to Rickert. He has been charged with carrying a weapon on school property.
Rickert confirmed that Williams had been on his way to the school to check on his child.
“He wasn’t there to wreak havoc, but based on the information we had gotten in reference to a disturbance, that’s why deputies were there and that’s why they were looking for him,” Rickert said. “When they located him, they searched for a weapon.”
Deputies believe Williams was arguing with his wife, which caused someone to call authorities regarding a disturbance. Rickert said it did not appear that Williams had fired any shots.
Williams has been released on a $5,000 bond.
