Mississippi University for Women will be doing its part in contributing to Loaves and Fishes and Global Connections by making bowls for the Empty Bowls for Hunger event.
There will be opportunities to make bowls on the MUW campus for the Empty Bowls for Hunger event, which is hosted by the MUW Department of Art and Design, the MUW Culinary Arts Institute and the Shops at Brickerton.
The community will have a chance to make bowls using the potter”s wheel, molds or coil and slab. Some instruction will be provided by Alisa Holen, MUW assistant professor, and Allison Cole, a 2009 MUW graduate. This will take place on Friday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
MUW faculty will get some instruction from Holen on wheel throwing, hand building and using molds. This will take place on Oct. 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Participants will make the bowls in room 100 of the MUW Art and Design Building.
All bowls made will be sold at the Empty Bowls for Hunger event on Saturday, Nov. 7, on the front lawn at the Shops at Brickerton. All proceeds will go to Loaves and Fishes in Columbus and Global Connections, an organization that alleviates hunger and brings other relief to the people of Africa.
