Rural communities across the state will soon be benefiting economically from the efforts of Mississippi State University.
The university recently received a $1 million grant as part of the Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge to help create jobs in rural areas. The $1,065,000 grant will be used in 61 counties across Mississippi to help entrepreneurs and small business owners expand and grow their businesses.
The Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge will focus primarily on communities in the Delta and Appalachian region and hopes to create more than 500 jobs and have an economic development impact of more than $30 million.
MSU will also have a hand in the upcoming 6th Annual Miss-Lou Regional Tourism Summit next week. Held August 7-9 in Natchez, the theme of this year’s summit is “I think I can, I think I can, I know I can!”
Mississippi State and the Mississippi Louisiana Rural Tourism Association worked closely together to provide programming that educates the communities on up to date legislative policies that impact local tourism.
The 3 day event will focus on helping rural communities attract tourists and in effect, boost their economic status.
