Four people were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where one later died due to injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Monroe County Monday night.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley”s daughter, Jessica Gurley, was pronounced dead at approximately 9:17 p.m. Jessica Gurley, 20, was a resident of Hamilton and worked at the Hamilton Dollar General Store.
The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 45 and Hamilton Road, in the area known as “the Crossroads.” Jessica Gurley was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion. The driver of the other vehicle, Kelly Hollowell, 36, of Steens, and two passengers in Hollowell”s 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, were transported to Baptist hospital as well. Merchant did not know the condition of the passengers, whose names were not released. Hollowell was treated and released on Monday.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Brian Mobley said the accident is still under investigation, and no further details have been released.
Jessica Gurley is preceded in death by her mother, Kimberly Gurley.
In addition to her father, who lives in Hamilton, she is survived by her sister, Catlin Gurley of Hamilton; and brother, Christopher Gurley, currently stationed with the United States Navy in Norfolk, Va.
